Birthdays are a little bit important when you’re a new mum

Hubby and I aren’t big on our birthdays – he usually forgets his and I don’t really care to celebrate mine – but my 28th was my first as a mum, and I decided it would be a wonderful reason to do the things I haven’t really had a chance to do since Kaylin came along.
So, I got a massage. It was a little rushed – I’m still breastfeeding exclusively which means my time is divided into never-enough 3.5 hour chunks – but it was infinitely better than nothing. Of course, I could have just left expressed milk for Kaylin to take from the bottle but I’m really lazy pretty good at keeping breastpump use to a minimal so I guess you could say it’s my fault. No biggie, I suspect the benefits were more psychological than physical anyway.
Then, hubby arranged for us to meet up with some good friends for a birthday lunch. Which has never happened before but which, this year, was perfect because it had been awhile since I got together with everyone for a meal. We had dim sum at Oriental Pavilion and even managed coffee after that. (Thanks for coming out, guys, I had a great time!) And I decided that from now on, maybe celebrating my birthday is a little bit important after all, because it’s going to be my annual excuse to do Whatever I Want.
