I guess I do heart Malaysia
I’ll be honest: I totally did not want to celebrate Merdeka this year. I’m tired of the crap, the politicking, the beyond-ridiculous individuals, the politicking. I know I said that already but that’s how fed-up I am. I didn’t even bother to add the Malaysian flag to my Twitter profile picture like so many have, which now that I’ve said it, makes me sound a little like the grinch who stole independence day.
Then I made the mistake of logging on to Twitter first thing in the morning. It’s easy to get mad at my country when I read the news, which is why I hardly read them anymore – getting too cynical. It’s easy to stay mad at my country when I’m lying in bed all by myself – more on why in my next post. But on Twitter… well, not even my ice-cold-or-so-I-thought heart could resist all the love and hope and humour that was being poured out by the people I follow (followees?).
So this is why #iheartmalaysia:
1) Sipadan, one of the best scuba diving sites in the world;
2) I can wear shorts and slippers everywhere because the weather’s awesome and I’m sloppy like that;
3) The people who continually inspire me and give me hope for the country.
