Here comes the (mad) bride
Four days into the new year, it has finally hit me that we are in 2005. January 2005 to be exact. Which gives Yuchun and I exactly 6 months to do the several dozen things that need to be done before the big day. Now we’re finally preparing for the wedding. This is going to be fun. We’re going to make it fun.
On the work side, I am finally settled. I even got my phone line today, and rumour has it my name cards are on the way. How exciting. I am slowly but surely getting to know my colleagues, and since I’m feeling talkative today, I might even go around bugging people. Or I might not. There are advantages to being the youngest around, though I must say the tiny age gaps here probably won’t make for much pampering. I can’t wait to see their reactions when they find out I’m getting married. No one seems to have caught on to that fact so far, despite the ring on my fouth finger.
Back to weddings, I’ve been told preparing for a wedding brings out the worst in women. They supposedly become obsessed, hysterical control freaks who think the end of the world is nigh if they can’t find the perfect flower with the perfect shade of lavender to match the decor of the ballroom’s curtains. So far, I am proving the doomsayers wrong. But if I turn into the monster known as a bride-to-be, please hit me over the head. Though I doubt you’ll get to me before Yuchun does.
Speaking of which, I think he just might fall prey to the bride-to-be syndrome. I know, what an interesting surprise. He wants every detail to be perfect. As he puts it, it’s our wedding and this is just once in a lifetime (at least you know we’re not planning on divorce).
Don’t get me wrong though, I love him for it. Between the two of us, I think we can come up with something we’ll be happy with. If we don’t, the fact that we’re getting married to each other should be enough.
Goodness, that sounded so not like a bride-to-be.
