mid mid-20s

So I’ve finally turned 23. The threshold that divides you from the early-20s-ala-university-student and mid-20s-ala-young-working-woman. No more telling people I’m technically 22 and married so I can see their eyes go wide and their mouths dropping open to form one syllable: why?

After the 6 month hype of preparations and the finale of a wedding, a birthday truly pales in comparison. Never mind that it’s already been more than a month, I might as well still be on my honeymoon. We’ve just finished opening our wedding pressies, counted our ang pows, and almost gotten over New York and Bahamas. We still haven’t sorted out our wedding pictures and haven’t so much as caught a glimpse of the video – I don’t even know if we’re getting one. So don’t mind me if I almost forgot my own birthday, I’m still feeling very much like my sashay down the aisle was just last week.

It’s a good thing lots of people remembered on my behalf this year. Thanks y’all.

I didn’t have a bash, just dinner with family and a cake and song they insisted upon. Had lunch with my siblings and mum the day before that, and no, my husband did not get me anything (he needed reminding himself).

But if you’re shaking your head at the injustice of it all (not getting anything for his wife’s birthday?!), fear not for I am in my own very good hands. It’s the sale season and I intend to make my rounds very, very soon. In fact, I have a list of shops in my head, currently at four and counting. Make that five.

I did just turn 23 after all.
